I get a blue screen with white text which I dont get time to read probably a
second then my pc shuts down and reboots-saying there was a serious error
and suggesting a report-does anyone recognize this I've run Norton and it
doesn't pick anything up? It happens every few minutes when I'm online.

Reboot into SAFE MODE without network support and run Norton again.

Without knowing about your machine and applications it's very hard to
give detailed advise about your problem.

Turn off "reboot on error" setting for Windows.

Go to My Computer, then select Properties. Select the "Advanced" TAB and in the Startup and Recovery section click the "Settings" button.
At System Failure block, "Un-check" the "Automatically restart" line. Apply change, make clean exit.

This will prevent a "reboot on error", and will also show (when you have Windows exception) the error code and its description.

IF a STOP error occurs, write down its number and complete description and follow up on fixes.

If Normal mode of Windows is still "re-booting" itself, reboot pc & tap the F8 Function key to select SAFE Mode, then do steps above.

Next, take a look at the system's Event Log:
Select Start button/ select Run , then type in

eventvwr.msc<enter>
-- or Go to Control Panel / Performance and Maintenance/Administrative Tools >Event Viewer.

Review the sections and look for Errors or Warnings that match the time the event occurred. Double click---the information "may" give a clue.

Most probably it is time to reformat your hard disk and start all over again. All computers need to have a good spring clean from time to time (once a year for those people who live by their PCs/Laptops).

Before you embark on this laborious task please ensure that you have all the serial numbers, all CDs, and telephone numbers of your ISPs. Also, make sure you have copied all your data from "My Documents" folders. If your machine came with a CD of drivers then you will need this as well. Also make sure your mouse and keyboard is working properly as you will need to press keys (& mouse clicks) when doing a clean install.
