Is there even a ? of waiting on SP1??

By the number of posts I am seeing with people having problems with SP1 I am
afraid to (attempt to) install it. My experience with Vista has not started
out great as I first dealt with the failure of the installation of those 2
prerequisites through WU. You really have to do a lot of searching into
these issues to figure out what the problem is. I got a brand new computer
and was very concerned that WU's were failing on me. Well, I bagged the
pre-reqs, but consider SP1?? Seems more like it should be avoided at all
costs. I mean what--should we just take a risk and hope that it works??
What is that about? Ok-I will get off the soapbox and ask my question.

Will there come a time when I am forced to install SP1?

You do realize that people come to these groups to resolve problems and that
almost nobody pops in to say "I installed SP1 and it went just fine"?
FWIW, I've installed SP1 on three of my machines, two desktops (1 Core2 and
one Phenom) and a laptop (Turion). All three installs went off without a
hitch.

Yet to see mine offered in Windows Updates as yet.
Don't see anything on the "reasons it might not be offered" list that would
include me.

Same here on Compaq (HP) Laptop - but their site says NVidia is holding up
release.

Desktop installed smoothly yesterday.

Thanks Bill.
I checked the link. Seems to involve Nvidia graphics/audio.
My graphics is Intel and audio is SoundMAX so fingers crossed!

Then you should look at:

---
Display drivers

* Intel Display
o For x86-based computers: Igdkmd32.sys – versions between
and including driver 7.14.10.1322 and 7.14.10.1403
o For x64-based computers: Igdkmd64.sys – versions between
and including driver 7.14.10.1322 and 7.14.10.1403

Are you sure all your drivers are up to date?

Personally, I am waiting for my system to auto install SP1, not trying to
force it. It seems most people reporting problems have been installing the
beta or doing it other than thru Windows update. My system runs flawlessly
now, so I'm just going to wait until the system is ready.

After SP1 is installed by windows update, all future updates will be for it,
so you will have to install it at some time or turn off update altogether
(not recommended).

I waited until windows update offered it to me as an update, which came
shortly after I checked for updates and got a Defender update, right after
that it showed me SP1 as a critical update.
So I figured, my system was ready for it, but since I had already downloaded
the complete SP1 file just to have for future if I need it, I installed from
it instead, with no issue.

The Windows Update version will begin being offered in mid-April.

Where are you getting this information from? My desktop was offered SP1 from
Windows Update during this past week. I think I have read that some
non-English language versions will be offered during April.

My comment earlier was related to my Compaq laptop and the reasons HP is not
releasing the update for my configuration until April.

Apparently, according to the HP forum participants, you can get the update
directly at

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6d-5ebb-413b-89c9-cb3d06d12674&DisplayLang=en

But I'd be careful.
