Is there any program that will keep my IP address private?

I didn't say that. I may do the same again if I believe it would be
of interest or help to the OP, as it was in that instance.

The old answer was "take it to email". I won't tell you to take this
type of post there.

However, got webspace, can you get webspace?
Do you subscribe to other newsgroups?

In this case you could have either given an URL to a description
and/or testimonial of that payware program.

Or you could have posted to a group like alt.privacy.spyware and told
Lisa to carry on there. Lisa would learn far more there than here.

Helping ANYONE here with payware is no help.

Did you even wait to see if anybody else could post a freeware solution?
Why did you jump in and recommend non-freeware a mere 16 minutes after
the OP?

Please refrain from being so off topic about software in this group. The
name of the group is "alt.comp.freeware", not "alt.comp.itsnotfreebut".

But that's just my opinion.

Hummingbird,
Bear in mind Godwin's law:

Also bear in mind that although there are no "rules" in a non-moderated
group, common sense should tell you that posting an off-topic
recommendation of Trialware is not a good idea. Why? Why is this when
you're only trying to help the OP? It's because what you did is kind of
like littering.... "What if everybody did it?" If everybody took your
tack in this group and started recommending Trialware and other such
garbage, the group would lose its effectiveness.

Although the OP may have been happy with your recommendation, others
generally come here looking for freeware. You could have said that you
were going to answer in alt.comp.shareware and posted your message there
with "Ping: Lisa re. IP Address privacy" in the subject line.

Staying on topic is one of the most fundamental of usenet guidelines:

http://www.usenetmonster.com/infocenter/articles/usenet_netiquette.asp
http://www.zedtoo.demon.co.uk/jcode/basic.html
http://www.magicpub.com/netiquette.html
http://www.comcast.com/Support/Corp1/FAQ/FaqDetail_2518.html
http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1855.html
etc., etc., etc.

Please try to stay on topic. Everybody in this group is off topic from
time to time, but usually not when it's regarding recommendation of
software.
