for lost files and then replace them using the system CD? I seem to remember being able to do this on 98SE, but haven't ever had the problems with XP until now. I want to try and avoid reformatting if possible, and if there are just a couple of lost/corrupted files that I can fix, that's what I'd prefer. THANKS!

Hi Cheryl,

You can go to Start > Run and type
sfc /scannow
(note the space between the c and the forward slash)

This will replace damaged system files using the original XP CD.

You might need to go to Windows Update after doing this.

Good luck
