Do I need SP1 in addition to SP2, or will SP2 install all previous patches
as well?

Morten

No, SP2 contains all "patches" from day 1. There have been quite a few
patches since SP2 also.

SP2 includes all the SP1 updates - HOWEVER once you install SP2 you should
then go to Windows Update to get all the post SP2 security and other
hotfixes.
You should be as up to date as possible.

nope, sp2 includes all fixes from sp1. after you apply sp2, you will still
need a handful of updates from microsoft that apply to SP2.

SP2 is all that you need, as it is a compilation of preevious service packs,
and released hotfixes after the previous service packs. You may still need
to get a few security and critical updates after you install SP2

What to Know Before You Download and Install Windows XP Service Pack 2:

SP2 replaces SP1 in its entirety. Therefore, only installing
SP2 is necessary.

SP2 includes all of the SP1 fixes. You do not need to install both.
