Need SP2 before SP3 installation?

My friend has only SP1 installed. To update to SP3 do I need to install SP2
or is SP3 cumulative with SP2 items?

You can go straight from Sp1 to Sp3.
SP3 = all changes up to the issue date of SP3. April 2008 or so.
SP2 = all changes up to the issue date of SP2, whatever that was! '04?

Your friend can skip SP2 altogether.

HOW TO get WinXP SP1 fully patched:

1. Download & save the installer for WinXP SP3 to your desktop:

2. Read & heed:

the install completes.

5. Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com | Install any required software
then click on CONTINUE | Select CUSTOM and scan | Install any critical
security updates offered. Again, follow all prompts.

If they already have SP1, then yes they can skip SP2 and just install
