Is running Virtual PC difficult?

F

Frank Bright

Hi,
I'm on Vista Home Prem. 32-bit and I would possibly like to run XP on MS's
Virtual PC. For one, will MS's Virtual PC run on Vista Home Prem at 32-bit?

I've heard that it WILL work, but that it is just not supported. If that's
true, the question of difficulty is more important, ie, in case I somehow
need assistance.

I'm fairly computer savvy, but I have not run Virtual PC software before
either. Does MS offer software that would make Vista 32-bit compatible with
the Virtual PC?

I appreciate any help or assistance.

Many Thanks, Frank Bright

I don't know about Home Premium, but Virtual PC runs fine on Vista Business,
which is a 32-bit OS.

Hi, Frank.

I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 and recently installed VPC. This is my the
first try at VPC, too. My understanding is that VPC will install and run
just fine on the 32-bit version of either Vista or WinXP, but I've never
tried either of those.

For peer-to-peer support for VPC, try the newsgroup
microsoft.public.virtualpc.

I'm running it on Vista Home Premium. It runs fine. Just ignore the "not
supported" prompt when installing.
Its VERY easy to use. Just remember you cant screw up your machine with it.
Its kind of scary when you put your XP disk in, in a VirtPC session and you
"format" and install on the virtual hard drive, but its still only virtual,
if you screw up, just delete the virtual drive (its just another file on
your native os).

Yes, I found out about the no usb support (besides mouse/keyboard) too late. ;(
I was hoping to use Finale Music Notation software with which I usually go midi in thru a usb port.

Since I've already done it, I'll have other uses for it, so I'll keep it.

Many Thanks, Frank
