Is Outlook 2003 compatible with Norton Antivirus 2002?

I just upgraded a computer to Windows XP, reinstalled
Norton Systemworks 2002, and installed Office 2003. Upon
checking email, error messages kept coming up saying that
Norton Antivirus didn't scan the messages for viruses. Are
these two programs compatible? If they are, I'll focus on
problems with the Norton installation. If not, I'll stop
wasting my time and go back to Office 2002.

Another problem with Office 2003 is that it wouldn't allow
any word files to open. Even if you create a new word file,
save it, then try to open it, you couldn't open it. Excel
files wouldn't open because antivirus wouldn't let them
open. Microsoft sure made a lemon this time.

So I gave up on Office 2003 and installed Office XP. Works
fine now. Now what do I do with this Office 2003 coaster?

I'm using both with no problem.

I've found that, when configuring a new machine, I install the OS, then
all of the application software, then I install the Norton AntiVirus and
Norton Personal Firewall software. The result -- and I've installed a
heck of a lot of systems, has been very smooth. Right now I'm using
Office 2003 with Norton SystemWorks 2003 Professional and Norton
Personal Firewall 2003, all is working quite nicely.

Don't "coaster" the 2003 CDs -- the new version is a darn nice product.
For example, they've gone far and beyond with the new Outlook 2003
implementation, especially with the new virtual folders and junk mail
filtering. I -=LIVE=- in Outlook so I =very= much appreciate the new
functionality. I'm not a power user when it comes to the other Office
applications, but I do have to support them, so at some point or another
I'll encounter just about every feature of the programs, either from
using them myself or trying to duplicate someone else's problem -- so
far 2003 has proven to be the least problematic of all the Office
versions so far.

(What a sad state of affairs -- I have been reduced to rating an Office
suite by the degree to which it doesn't suck....) ;-)
