i have xp mce 2004 which is pro instead of home but i just read an article
that says they have reworked mce 2005 to be between home and pro so does that
mean that if i upgrade to mce 2005 that i wont have pro any more? alot of
features that i use are not supported in the home edition so i don't want to
downgrade to upgrade. could anyone answer this question for me? thx

It is not a case of being one or the other.
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is based on Windows XP Professional
with SP2. However certain functionality found in Professional is disabled
by MCE 2005 - this is the ability to join a domain. This is required to
allow you to use other functionality such as the new extenders.
However if you do an upgrade from 2004 to 2005 and that machine was a domain
member under 2004 it will still be under 2005, also you can join a domain
if doing a clean install if you do it during the initial setup. Either way
if you have Domain member functionality you loose the use of the Extenders.
