Question about MCE 2005

P

Peabody

I'm looking at two computers I might buy. One is slightly less
capable, and less expensive, than the other, including having XP
Home versus MCE 2005.

But if I buy something called a TV Tuner card, won't that come with
software that pretty much duplicates the additional MCE functions?

This may be a dumb question since I know nothing about TV Tuner
cards or MCE 2005, but if someone could give me some guidance on
this, I would appreciate it.

There is no software that comes close to duplicating all MCE functions. MSI
media center is about as close as you can get.

The direct burning of recorded programs to DVD and the search/automatic
programming of future recordings not yet listed in the guide alone make MCE
worth the difference.

MCE would have more "features" than XP Home. If you add a TV Tuner card to
Xp Home, your will need to manage the TV software (tuner, PVR etc..)
yourself. MCE seems to do this itself.
