Is it possible to exclude text marked as Heading 3 from the TOC?

I have a very cluttered TOC and want to remove all the paragraph text that is
finding its way in.

The text is marked as a Heading 3.

Is it possible to exclude that text and or heading level from the TOC?

If you know the TOC number you have there, you can go into
format...styles...click on the relevant TOC, and click modify. Change the
'level' to 2...something along those lines should work. Not 100% sure on all
the names, etc., but you'll probably find it...

See http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/TOCSwitches.htm.

The \o switch in the TOC field code controls which levels are included, so
changing the code from \o "1-3" into \o "1-2" will limit the TOC to only
Heading 1 and Heading 2 entries.

Instead of editing the TOC field code directly, you can revisit the Table of
Contents dialog and click the Options button. In the Options dialog, erase
the '3' in the TOC Level column opposite the Heading 3 label. Behind the
scenes, that will change the field code for you.

Thanks for your response,

I have TOC 3, I did as you suggested and went to format...styles...click on
the relevant TOC, and click modify. I looked in all the sub menus under the
Format button as well.

I see no indication of a "level" prameter. Am I missing it.

I am using Word 2007

Thanks,

:), That's where I was looking to see where to change it, but I assumes that
was an option in the style formatting as well. I'm on 2000 still, too. Sorry!
