Is it possible to change the order of open applications on the status bar

At home, this is not really an issue as I rarely have many applications open
at the same time.
At work, this is completely different as I often have many applications open
and need access to them easily.

As a general rule, I open the applications in the same order each time, so I
always know where they are on the status bar in the XP window. This makes it
almost automatic for me to select the right application bar in the status
toolbar. It may sound a very minor issue, but I hate having to check through
them all to select the one I want (especially as I have the 'Group similar
taskbar buttons' turned off - I could never get on with it). The way in
which I work, however, means that I always know where a particular window
will be even if I have multiple IE windows open.

The problem occurs if an application dies for any reason or I close it by
mistake. If I open it again, it comes up on the status bar as the last
application opened.

Is there any way that this can be moved to the place I want on the toolbar?
I have not been able to find a way to do it manually, although having said
that, I managed to do it once, but have no idea what I did to actually do
it. It was done by accident somehow.

Hope I have made myself clear.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

There is a small system tray program called "The Wonderful Icon" (freeware)
that has a function to minimize a program to the system tray. (Right click
on the Minimize control) From there you can bring them back to your task bar
in any order you like. Google for it.
