Can I use a spreadsheet created with Excel 2002 to create a database in
Access 97?

Yes - You can import data from Excel into Access if that's what you mean.

I know that importing from Excel into Access CAN be done... but can it be
done with the 2002 version of Excel and the 97 version of Access? When I
try it I get an error message that the Excel Access Wizard cannot open. or
something like that.

I have no problem using Access 97 with Excel 2003. AFAIK, there's been no
change to the file format since Excel 97.

You'll have to give us the exact error message you're giving.

Cannot Start the Microsoft Access Excel Import Wizard

I am trying to create a new database from the Excel wksh

Sorry: I haven't encountered that, and can't find any reference to that
error in the KB. Hopefully someone else will come up with a suggestion.
