Access 2000 File in Access 2002

I have created a number of databases from Access 97 thru Access 2002 and need
to maintain compatability for the users. For that reason, I use the 2002
version. I recently had a problem with an Access 2000 database that 1. would
not let Access 2000 users open the database because of an undefined function
(monthname) and 2. would not open pivot tables assigned to command buttons.

I thought that anything I write in Access 2002 in Access 2000 compatablity
mode should work for Access 2000 users.

Any ideas?

Unfortunately, that's not the case.

If you use new features that are introduced in A2202 software (and not
available in A2000 software), these will not work if the user uses A2000
software to open the database. These features you used will work fine if
the user uses A2002 software.

Basically, there are no ways that A2000 software understand the new features
which are introduced after A2000 software was released.

If you do your developing with oldest version your user possiblt to use (in
you case, Access97), you would have less compatibility issues. Not the other
way around, as you assumed (to use Access2002). Working with newer version,
you may end up using some features that do not exist in older version. On
the other hand, almost all features in oder version are available in newer
version.
