IRQ Issue Soundblaster Audigy

When installing a Soundblaster Audigy in XP Home, the OS is assigning it a
virtual IRQs (17-19 depending on the PCI slot used). The drivers are
installed and the card is working (after a couple of BSODs which I believe is
a Soundblaster thing :) - but the associated apps (Cubasis etc) are looking
for the card on IRQ4 so none of these will install. The BIOS has set this
device to IRQ4 but Windows is overriding it. Device Manager box to override
automatic settings is greyed out. Nothing is using IRQ4, including hidden
devices. Have tried disabling PnP in the BIOS to no effect.

How do I move this card to IRQ4 in XP so I can install the software?

PnP is assigning the IRQ. In other words, Windows is doing the work behind
the scenes to make your card work - which it does. It will override any IRQ
settings in the BIOS.
Cubasis doesn't look for a particular IRQ. An IRQ is an interupt request
made to the processor by the hardware to 'get its attention'.

Can you play anything via Media Player etc through the card?

Hi,
The card itself works and will play - but none of the bundled apps that came
with it will install, when you try to run setup they immediately bring up an
error that there is no Soundblaster present and won't even run the install.
The only reason I could think of is that the IRQ wasn't what was expected - I
am open to ideas :)
One bit of troubleshooting is that, if you start in safe mode, Windows
installs loads of compatibility drivers for the card - but it is definitely
the correct driver for the card that is installed.

FWIW, IRQ4 is not even a conventionally assigned IRQ that is supposed
to be used with any sound card. IRQ4 is typically associated with COM1.
And for a PCI-slot sound card, which I believe the Audigy is one, then
it has been designed to accept an assigned IRQ when used in OS's such
as Windows XP due to IRQ-sharing convention. Check the Cubasis manual
and look for anything that needs to be connected to a serial port. If
there is, then release IRQ4 in bios setup and if Serial Port1/COM1 is
needed by Cubasis, then activate the port.
