IPX/SPX configures

Does anyone know of any good tutorials on how to configure IPX/SPX between
Windows XP and Windows 98SE over a WAN?

John:

You are STILL confused.
You can't "...configure IPX/SPX between Windows XP and Windows 98SE over a WAN?" unless you
Tunnel IPX/SPX within IP.

Novell does provides a IPTunnel driver (TCP port 213) but if memory serves me... You want
to network WinXP <--> Win98 via IPX/SPX over a LAN.

I already gave you the needed information considering both the WinXP Client and how to
configure the IPX/SPX network addressing scheme.

Is there a reason you need that protocol? Generally you only need TCP/IP
to network computers, including XP and 98SE. Do you need to connect to
a Novell network?

Novell Netware supports IP connections since Netware 4.0

Not necessarily so, this depends on router configurations. I work for a
very large school district and we connect with both IP and IPX (not
tunelled) across a WAN.

Novell supports pure IP connections since Netware 4.2

Also, Novell is (or has) abandoned IPX/SPX, since version 6 of Novell.

Novell 4.2 was not the version where it was "pure IP". It started the
transition.

This is NOT scahool district, this is a personal SOHO LAN. John could not afford a CISCO
Router that will Route mutltiple protocols and John is on Comcast "X-WBNR-Posting-Host:
67.161.24.12" and the ONLY option would be an IPTunnel for IPX/SPX.

He's not connecting to a Novell server. John's desire is to run a networked DOS game
between Win98 and WinXP boxes and "supposedly" the DOS game is IPX/SPX compliant.

It is all a moot point.

between Win98 and WinXP boxes and "supposedly" the DOS game is IPX/SPX compliant.

If the OP is not connecting to a Novell network then why was that
mentioned at all? I responded to what I read posted here, in THIS
thread, in which there was no mention of a "personal SOHO LAN" in THIS
thread.

Regardless, your statement:
You can't "...configure IPX/SPX between Windows XP and Windows 98SE
over a WAN?" unless

is nonetheless mistaken.

As I said, it depends on the router configurations and since there was
NO MENTION in THIS THREAD of that, how was I to know? I'm sorry, but my
crystal ball is in the shop.

Understood (now). My question is why was Novell mentioned at all then?

Discussions about a particular situation need to be kept in a SINGLE THREAD!

Netware 6.5 supports IPX and IP client connectivity, we are using both
everyday.
Novell 4.2 was not the version where it was "pure IP". It started the
transition.

You may be correct about this. NW 5.x fully supports pure IP client
connectivity.

That's why I mentioned it. I went through hoops with John a few nights ago. Then he posted
this thread.
