iPhone warning

Any iPhone users ever got the warning in the image below ?
A friend of mine just posted the picture on her Fartbook page and I had a look on the interweb, but there isn't much to say what is actually causing it.

I've not had it happen to my phone, but it looks like the phone will warn you if it exceeds safe temp levels (quite clever):

Wish my Samsung S3 had that feature. It just shuts down and won't turn on till its cooled down.

Wasn't there an issue with batteries a while ago while charging?

Or was that something else?

Aye, had this happen few times on my phone which is a Motorola. I was not expecting it the first time it happened. Most instances were due to my forgetting it lodged on the holder on dash when I was using it as a gps and left it unattended in the car during summer months. The poor thing was almost red hot when I came back and the message showing.
