What do I have to do to check on my IP.

In Win98Se it is winipcfg and then you get q box you c fiddle with.

What do you do in XP?

I thought it was ipconfig but when I do that a black Dos box appears and
disappears before you have a chance to see what it says.

The reason I want it is that i have a home network with XP on one computer
and 98SE on the other. When I have problems I usually force the ip on the
98SE and things get sorted out. Now I want to do the same on the XP but
don't know where to start

Start->Run->type in "cmd" ->then type in "ipconfig" or ipconfig /all for
more details

My network places, view network connection, right click your connection,
status, support tab.(also the details button on the support tab).

Or

Start, run, type in: cmd, hit enter. Type in: ipconfig /all , hit enter.

Thanks

One of the switches is Release (adaptor) ; Renew (adaptor)

How do I find out what the value of "adaptor" is?

Thanks

qim

To use the release and renew switches you would type:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
