IPCONFIG /release and /renew error message and odd connectivity problems

No Way

For some reason, when I perform ipconfig /release or /renew, I get the
following error message:
Windows IP Configuration
The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for
this operation.

The weird part is that, after a reboot, I start with a full internet
connectivity with all my apps; IE, Firefox, Flashfxp (FTP client),
mIRC, Outlook Express, Forte Agent (newsreader), NewsLeecher (used for
binary downloading from NNTP servers) and etc.

However, after a few hours, when I come back to my computer, my IE,
Firefox, Outlook, Agent would lose their connectivity. Meaning, the
IE and Firefox act as though they're completely offline and my Agent
says that it cannot connect to the NNTP server, my Flashfxp says that
it cannot connect to the destination, even though it's an FTP server I
use all the time.

Now, the weirdest part is that my mIRC is still functional in terms of
it still being online and I can use NewsLeecher as well. But I'm left
to reboot since those other apps can't get online.

Has anyone ever experienced this before? Does anyone have any idea as
to what might be causing this?

I have power cycled both the router and the modem and the router
alread had its firmware updated the first day I got it. I have not
installed or uninstalled anything in the last few weeks and have
already scanned all my computers and showed nothing, not even
something suspicious.

This problem's really bugging me and getting tired of having to
reboot. Please help!

Look for an LSP / Winsock problem, then reload the NIC drivers.
