IPC$ in shared files

I found IPC$ in list of shared files (computer Management (Local)> shared
folders>shares) in the computer management console in my pc. It doesn't show
a shared path and doesn't appear in the shared folders in 'My Network
Places'.
What I've read so far in the newsgroups and articles is a bit confusing. As
far as I have read, IPC$ is a hidden file and it can be used by hackers to
get my information, but is needed and in any case cannot be permanently
deleted . Can anyone tell me if it should be there or should I try and remove
it. I've been experimenting with a user account (a separate post) and today
Ad-Aware picked up a browser hijacker (softomate) on both user accounts and
later on another hijacker (CWS.QTTASK3), so am getting concerned. My system
is Windows XP sp2 Home edition and am on a wireless Home Network with Netgear
router plus Windows firewall.

You are fiddling with stuff you don't understand and if you keep going
like this, you will hose your system. I'm not saying this to hurt your
feelings and I'm sorry if it does, but this is the truth.

If you properly protect your computer and practice "Safe Hex", you will
be just fine. You are getting malware not because system shares exist
but because you aren't practicing "Safe Hex". Here are links to help
you learn about staying safe.
