IP renews itself every 10 seconds!

Customers computer had a strange problem. Windows XP would renew the IP from
the cable modem every 10 seconds. Very consistant, you could watch it go up
and down through the "show connection" icon in the system tray and the
network control panel. Tried a different cable modem and it still happened,
tried USB interface and it still happened. Tried my laptop on same cable
modem and it was stable, no problem. Is this guy infected, or does he have a
corrupt winsock? The DHCP lease is set for 24 hours and it would reflect that
in the ipconfig /all command. I didnt look at his runnin g programs for a
virus, thought it might be OS related. Thanks

No, its not that. Cable modem GUI states receive levels are -2/44, well
within -18/60 limits. The cable modem never goes down, we can monitor this.
It is the OS that asks for the IP renew. I have hard coded the IP for now,
and that is stable but it is not a good long term fix. Thanks for the
suggestion though.
