Hello there

Here is my story:

we have a very small server with 40 clients running
windos 2000 small bisness server and windows 2000
professional and Wndows XP pro.

We have also a R&D department connected to my Windos 2000
server with Windows 2000 pro as client. For other parpose
they are using Linus machine on my network,i have no idea
how Linux works, the problem is i have DHCP server and
some static IP address. the thing is that i can not see
how many linux machines are on my network and what there
IP address are.

Is it possible the I install one windows machine and give
him all the free ip address, so that if someone give any
linux machine an ip address, then there will be an Ip
conflict.

how many Ip address can I asigne to one windows 2000 pro
machine???

please help..

you can assign one Ip address per machine
from what I could understand of your problem, you can use DHCP to do what
you want, you can either use the reservation feature or the exclusion
feature ( check the help for more details)
if you can provide more details of what you want to do we can help you more.

thanks

As a clarification, you can assign one IP per network card. If you have 2
network cards in your computer, you can have 2 IP addresses. 10 NICs, 10
IPs. But most computers only have 1 NIC and 1 IP address, so this is the
most common situation out there, but not the only one.

I know that I can assign only one Ip to one client if I
use DHCP server, But if i assign statis IP address then i
can use more then one by clicking on Advanced button. My
question is how many IP address can i assign to one pc.

the resone is:

i don't want any one come with there Laptop to our office
and connect to my network.

exapler,

i use a range of ip address like: 192.168.102.1 -
192.168.102.190
and my DHCP server gives IP address from 192.168.102.220 -
192.18.102.254

from 192.168.102.1 to 192.168.102.190 i have only use 15
ip address in total, if someone comes with his laptop and
connect to my network and assign one IP address between
192.168.102.1 and 192.168.102.119 which is not in use.
then he is on my network which i want to prevent.

my idea is, remove the DHCP server, use one computer and
assign all free ip addrmputer so that there will be no ip
address free to or that user.
