IP address conflict

I have two computers hooked together via ethernet through a hub under a
winxp network. I just got a Broadband wireless modem with an ethernet cable.
First I hooked the modem to the hub. Message came up saying there is a IP
adress conflict. Next I hooked the modem to the computer I have as host. Got
the same message. Next I hooked the modem to the other computer and it works
fine. Can I change the IP address of my network or do I need to get a router
instead of using the hub? Any suggestions will be welcome. Thanks.

One of your computers must have a static IP address that is the sme as the
Broadband router. 99.99% of broadband routers hand out IP addresses
automatically by default - so just change the settings on your computer to
get it' IP address automatically.

Thanks Kurt
Just to make sure I'm understanding right. Is a Broadband Router the same
as a Broadband wireless modem? The hub I have is for a dial up connection.
Does that make a difference? This is the setup I have.

I admit I'm not familiar with a dial-up modem / broadband wireless router
(although many broadband routers offer dial-up as a backup). I would think
they would be the same if you can share an internet connection.

From the command line of each computer, type "ipconfig" and see that the IP
addresses are unique. Normally, home devices give out IP addresses in the
range of 192.168.something.otherthing. The 192.168.somethings must all be
the same, and the otherthings must all be unique (modem and each computer).

It's not a dial-up modem/broadband modem. I might not have explained it
right. I was using a dial up connection modem and now I switched to a
broadband wireless modem. It's a Navini Portable Broadband modem from
Ntelos.
