Iomega Zip and XP Compatability

Kathy

Hi,

I am trying to load a large file that I saved from my old
computer a while back. I saved it on an Iomega Zip 100
file. Now, I am on Window XP. I plugged in the zip
drive, inserted the IOmega 100 tools disk in the zip
drive but my system is not recognizing the drive or
prompting me to load the software so I can pull the file
I need from a zip disk. Any clues what I need to do? I
am hoping that you won't tell me that this is
incompatable with XP and that is why I am having
troubles...

Thanks!
Kathy

Make sure you download and install the correct Iomega software and drivers.

You need to install the IOmega ZIP 100 XP drivers first. XP may not have
them built-in (I do not know ! I do not have a ZIP unit.)

You haven't given enough information. If it's a USB Zip 100, then no Iomega software is
needed. Windows XP has native drivers which will load automatically and recognize the
drive. But, if it's a Parallel Port Zip 100 Drive, you have to go to:

http://www.iomega.com/software/index.html

Fill out the Wizard:

1. Zip 100 Parallel Port
2. Windows XP
3. English

Then click the Find button. You will be taken to downloads for the latest version of
Iomegaware, which supports the Zip 100 Parallel Port Drive with Windows XP. Download and
install it. There Is also a Parallel Port Slow Transfer Patch. Download and install that
too. The Zip Tools disk that you have is NOT compatible with Windows XP. Doing the above
should install the Parallel Port Zip drive. BTW, the old ZIP tools like One Step Backup
are not compatible with Windows XP. So, if the file that you need from the ZIP disk was
created with one of the old Iomega Backup tools, then install the Iomega Parallel Port ZIP
drive on a Windows 98 system using the old tools disk, use the old backup program to
Restore the files to a Different Location, and restore them to a folder that you create
for them on the Windows 98 system. Then copy the restored files to a ZIP disk, and you
can then copy them to your Windows XP system after you install the drive with the Windows
XP compatible Iomegaware as described above.
