Iomega zip 100 in XP?

Hi, I have a colleague who has win2000 and have had problems with using
iomega zip 100 as backup. The error states something like, "not enough
space" even though he'd only tried to save about 30 Mb with 80 Mb free disk
space.

The work-around, seems to work in cmd prompt, only if he limit to 202 files.
The second work-around is to delete all files in root directory and create a
sub-directory inside the zip disk which then allows him to save more files.

Question is, will iomega zip drive work in XP? Is there a file quantity
limitation, such as seen in win2000?

jerry,

I have the Zip Plus, 100 MB zip drive w/parallel AND SCSSI connection. I use the
parallel connection on my Windows XP Home PC.

No problems here although I don't really know if I've ever saved as many as 202
files.

Why not contact IOmega?

Windows XP has native drivers for the Iomega 100 USB ZIP drive. All you
have to do is plug it into a USB port and Windows XP finds it and installs
the drivers. No so for the parallel port model, you'll have to download the
latest version of Iomegaware AND the Parallel Port Slow Transfer Patch at:

http://www.iomega.com/software/index.html

As for the file limit without creating a folder to store the files, since
the ZIP disks are formatted FAT, I believe that the limit still exists. But
creating a folder on the ZIP disk to store the files only takes a few
seconds.

Thanks TC,
he only has a parallel type model. But somehow, he can only work in cmd
prompt to transfer files. Problem with cmd prompt is that he has to
transfer files to a temp direct on the root C drive first, as a temporary
container. As you know, cmd prompt is text based, not gui based. So to
avoid typing long folder path typing and spelling, he would have to first
use explorer (gui) to copy updated files to c:\temp, then inside cmd prompt,
make the transfer to zip disk (because c:\temp is alot easier to type than
to type ...\doc and settings\ ...\...). Also, the longer a path, the more
easier you can make an error (one misspelled character), the computer is
totally confused. That's the difference between humans and machines, humans
have intuition, machines fall down when a single character is out of place.

Perhaps the Iomegaware that he has installed is corrupt, or not Windows XP
compatible. If he is using Windows XP, while the system is not powered on,
disconnect the parallel port ZIP drive. Then boot into Windows. Go to
Control Panel Add or Remove Programs and uninstall any Iomega software
listed. Reboot the system, go to the Iomega Software site, download the
correct version of Iomegaware and the Slow Parallel Port Transfer utility
that's Windows XP compatible, install them in that order. Then shut down
Windows XP and connect the parallel port ZIP. Boot the system and see if
all is OK.

There is a file number limit with the Zip 100 disks, it's somewhere around
200 files in the root directory. The work around is as you suggested,
create a folder in the root directory and save the files to that folder.
It's worked for me.

The drive is almost certainly formatted with a FAT 16 file system, which
allows only a fixed and limited number of files in its root directory.
The work around (in whatever main system) is to make a folder on it and
then back the files up into that
