IO system verification error

My Windows XP SP1 installation has gotten all messed up. I keep
getting an error messages that says:

IO system verification error in (WDM driver error 207) [+0 at
000000000]

This happens when I select "Start normally" or "Use last good
configuration." It also sometimes happens when I select "safe
mode." Since I started having this problem I have only been able to
get into Safe Mode of any length of time. Occasionally non-Safe
Mode works for about a minute but not longer than that.

Also when Scandisk runs I sometimes get an error about a Windows
prefetch file having something wrong with it and it being truncated.

I have tried booting from the XP CD and running the repair console
but all I seem to get is a DOS prompt. Is that what I am supposed
to get?

I thought that the problems might have been caused by my SIIG PATA
133 PCI controller card (version one with the Alcard BIOS/CHIPSET)
because I have had problems with its unsigned driver (CN2487.SYS)
before so I removed the controller card but I still have the
problems. The driver for this card does not seem to now be in any
of the system directories.

I have a Barton 2500+ (not overclocked) on an Epox 8RGA+ motherboard
with a gig of ram.

What should I do to fix this problem? Thank you in advance for all
replies.

The problem is you went into the "recovery Console".....not the repair function
XP REPAIR
.............................................................................

Boot from the CD or you can insert the CD while at the windows desktop but
when the setup screen appears, exit setup and reboot. If your system is set
to be able to boot from the CD, it should detect the disk and give a brief
message, during the boot up, if you wish to boot from the CD press any key.

Once you have pressed a key, setup should begin. You will see a reference
asking if you need to load special drivers and another notice that if you
wish to begin the ASR (Automatic Recovery Console) depress F2. Just let
setup run past all of that. It will continue to load files and drivers.

Then it will bring you to a screen. Eventually, you will come to a screen
with the option to (1) setup Windows or (2) Repair Windows Installation
using the Recovery console.

The first option, to setup Windows is the one you want and requires you to
press enter. When asked, press F8 to accept the end user agreement. Setup
will then search for previous versions of Windows. Upon finding your
version, it will ask if you wish to Repair your current installation or
install fresh. Press R, that will run a repair installation. From there
on, follow the screens.

I am TERRIBLY cruel to my cat. I tease him with a vine tendril
until he either jumps up in the air to bat at it or zooms around
in a circle until he gets too dizzy to stand up. What is cruel about
it is that I don't do it nearly as much as he wants me to.

I booted from the CD pressed R and everything went fine until after
it said that it needed to reboot. When it rebooted, if I let it
boot from the hard disk, I got the starting Windows message for one
or two seconds and then I got the same error message again. I
have tried this at least six times and gotten the same result each
time.

If I have it boot from the CD again it goes through the same setup
steps it went through before. I have tried this at least six times
and gotten the same result each time.

I am now unable to run XP even in safe mode because when I try, it
says that it is unable to run setup in safe mode and it has to
restart. I had to run my old 98 SE to use Agent and send this
message.

Is there anything I can do except make a completely new installation
of XP on another drive? Thank you again for your help.

P.S. Since the last known good configuration does not work is there
a way I can make it boot to a configuration before that?
