Invisible emails in folders

I recently bought a new PC with Windows Vista (Home Premium) and migrated my
old Outlook Express folders and emails as per the Help instructions. All
appeared well as all the old folders appear in Windows Mail. However there
appear to be NO emails in any of the folders. What is also strange is that
some of these apparently empty folders appear in bold displaying the number
of unread emails in the folder.

Presumably some indexing fault has occurred - repeated attempts at importing
have failed.

Anybody have a solutuion?

Try, (while viewing each individual folder), ensure the View>Current View
setting is Show all Messages?
HTH?

Thanks for advice but view is 'show all'. In addition to previous - when I
start up Windows Mail I now get an 'unknown' error reported - "An unknown
error has occurred. Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number:
0x800C0148".

Perhaps I should try Thunderbird

What if any antivirus programs do you have? Some of them tend to cause
assorted problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately.

Also, since your error message doesn't show the server name, make
sure you haven't made a mistake in entering it, such as leaving it blank.

Settings fine in Windows Mail - have no problem connecting with Outlook (same
server and connection settings). Have McAfee installed. Still not able to
view messages in imported folders where messages exist. Windows Mail takes
quite a while to open and close (unlike any other application). I guess
something must be corrupted somewhere -perhaps I need to reinstall Windows
Mail.

Windows Mail is part of Vista and very hard to uninstall or reinstall
without
doing the same to the rest of Vista.

Most versions of the McAfee antivirus software tend to cause assorted
problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately. So do most
versions of the Norton antivirus software. A recent version of the Trend
antivirus software also causes assorted problems in Windows Mail.
For these programs, disabling part or all of the program seldom helps;
you need to uninstall them instead. For the McAfee software, you also
need to run this cleanup program to take care of what the uninstall left
behind:

You sometimes also need to remove your email account under
Windows Mail, then restart Windows Mail and add the account
again.

If this cures your problem, you may want a replacement antivirus
program that doesn't cause problems in Windows Mail.
I recommend either avast! or AVG, either one with a custom install
that tells it to leave out the part that scans email.

Thanks for that.

McAfee came bundled with Vista from Gateway (who supplied the PC) who say
it's not the problem and just recommend reinstalling Vista using their
recovery suite.

Will try your suggestions first.
