Inverted B&W and Grayscale scanning problem.

Trying to scan many thousands of pages per week to PDF with our new HP
n6010 scanner. We are trying to get the files down to as small as
possible, which Acrobat seems to be able to do better than any other
program so far. The problem is all of the pages are inverted. White
page with black text scans as black page with white text. This only
happens when scanning with Acrobat (tried versions 7 and 8) using the
TWAIN drivers. Current setup is as follows:

Toshiba Satellite 2455-s305 laptop with XP home
Newest BIOS
HP n6010 scanner.
Acrobat 8.1.0 Standard
Newest drivers from HP website including the USB fix

Also tried scanning with a Dell Optiplex GX260 system, but the scanner
doesn't work with that model at all according to HP, due to
incompatibility problems with Dell's USB.

PLEASE help me out here. Thanks in advance.

http://www.pdf-tools.com/asp/products.asp?name=LPCD&type=gui

It uses techniques similar to DejaVu, but is compatible
with standard (albeit recent) PDF

It's not free, and I don't know of a
free/opensource equivalent.

(if anyone does, PLEASE post)
