Invalid shortcuts

When I delete files, the shortcuts that refer to those
files remain on my computer. I run Norton WinDoctor and
get many "invalid shortcuts" that I have to delete
separately.

Is there a way (setting) that will cause shortcuts to be
deleted when the referenced file is deleted?

Appreciate any help on this.

In addition: 'Invalid shortcuts' do not pose any kind of problem to a
computer. For WinDoctor to refer to them as errors that need resolution is
laughable.
