Invalid Codec

Anna

I downloaded an AVI file last night. The audio is crystal clear, but there
is no video. The error that occurs is invalid codec.

I've used WMP and a DIVX player without luck.

Any thoughts on how to solve this.

thx

Anna

Hi Anna,

What version of WMP are you running? 9 and 10 will tell you which codec is
missing, earlier versions require a lot more work to decipher it (involves
opening the media file in wordpad and scanning it for the proper info).

Hi Roger

I am using WMP 9, I didn't know that it will tell you which codec is
missing. Everything is now working, but in the future, if it didn't work,
where does it say what codec is missing?

Someone on another newsgroup suggested
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow/ and after downloading it, the
video worked.

Hi Anna,

On the right, when you try to play an unsupported file, there will be a
section of writing in red. Simply click on it to get the details.

Glad to hear you got it working, what did you discover the problem was?
