On my home PC, I have DIVX codec and all, so I can play any type of
video file (AVI, DIVX etc.). Same for my work PC.

My laptop can play all MPEGs, DIVX/AVI (I installed DivX on this too,
that is why) but cannot play *some* WMV files. The ones it cannot play
display the video as if it was a negative of a reel.

I am talking about Media Player 9 on XP Pro. How do I mend this?

Open Windows Media Player. Help/Check for Player Updates and update to
Media Player 10.

Wouldn't cost anything but a few minutes to re-install and/or
update your WMP to the latest version.

To know if this is caused by a missing Codec, try the VideoInspector tool.

as possible about your video files. With VideoInspector you'll know why your

export its result in HTML or plain text files.

This happens to me particularly in Powerpoint 2003. I cannot figure it out.

I do not get a negative...I get a black square with the sound playing
underneath.

What you are experiencing is an overlay issue. It has less to do with WMP
and more to do with your VGA card and or driver.

It could also be that these files are DRM-protected and that you need to
purchase a license to play them back.
