Help!!!!!!!!!!!

When I boot my computer with win xp home, I get a message
as follows,

invalid boot.ini

booting from C:\windows

I does then boot into windows fine.
How can I repair this, or should I leave it alone.

Thankyou in advance for your help.

Do you have a second Operating System on the machine that you also boot
into?

It can be fixed, either by opening the c:\boot.ini file and repairing
whatever is in there or by deleting the file and waiting for it to be
re-created.

It won't cause you problems though, so if you don't feel safe modifying it,
it won't hurt you to leave it the way that it is.

If you are looking to repair it, make sure that you understand how it
references drive partitions and directories.

There is only one operating system, winxp home.
If I delete the boot.ini file, will it create a new one by
itself. Or should I just leave it alone?

Thankyou for your quick response.

If you have a regular XP CD (not a 'restore' disk that came with the
machine), then

Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard Disk. Boot the XP CD and, instead
of Setup, take the immediate R for Repair. Assume any password
requested is blank, and TAB over.

Use
Attrib -H -R -S C:\boot,ini
DEL C:\boot.ini
to delete the bad one
BootCfg /Rebuild

to search for Windows installations and make a new one
