Invalid boot.ini file

I have a pc running Windows 2000 SP4 and when it boots, it
gives me a message that says

invalid boot.ini file
booting from c:\winnt\

I can't find anything on the MS Knowledge Base, and the pc
boots ok. How do I correct this problem?

Hard to say without seeing the text of boot.ini Probably missing the
default= line though.

A bit drastic for fixing a boot.ini file don't you think? Maybe try to
repair the installation or Inspect Startup Environment with the repair
console (with the W2K Setup Media) would be a bit more appropriate.

When we see this error, we generally find that boot.ini is missing. You can
create a new boot.ini file. Boot with you Windows 2000 CD and when
prompted, choose to Repair. When prompted, choose a Manual Repair and only
select "Inspect Startup Environment."

Hmm, first locate the boot.ini file then see what's in it. It should
be in the root directory but it is probably hidden and read only.

Cheers,
