I am using Win XP-Home Edition. Nearly every time I access the Internet, I
get that "ring" tone and Favorites -- or whatever I have open in the
left-hand frame -- disappears from view, only to be replaced by the
Microsoft yellow shield and message that IE has blocked something "to
protect my security." I would have no objection if this would run in the
background, but I find it very annoying that the announcement pops up over
and over again like this. In fact, the sound it makes is even more
annoying! I have followed the instructions given, to no avail. That is, I
have gone to Tools>Pop-Up Blocker>Pop-Up Blocker Settings and have unchecked
both "play a sound when a pop-up is blocked" and "show information bar when
a pop-up is blocked." I have also checked several times to make sure that
the boxes remain unchecked, and everything appears correct. Nevertheless,
this annoying intrusion occurs consistently. In most cases, it appears when
I open rather innocuous sources -- for example, it happens almost every time
I go to CNN.com.
Can anyone help? I can see the value in keeping the pop-up blocker, but not
if I can't turn off that annoying noise and the constantly reapparing
message. I really don't want to be "told" every time something is blocked.
Filter level is set at Medium (the default).
Thanks,
MaryL
