Introducing Win2K3 DC to Win2K Domain

Is there a migration/process that needs to happen to Windows 2000 Server
domain when you introduce the first Windows 2003 server domain controller? I
have a single Domain model with all domain controllers being Windows 2000
servers. I
have new Windows 2003 Servers that will be replacing my Windows 2000 servers.
Again is there anything special I need to do with my active directory and/or
domain before I install my first Windows 2003 Domain controller?

Brad,

You need to first run adprep /forestprep on the DC that holds the FSMO Role
of Schema Master and then adprep /domainprep on the DC that holds the FSMO
Role of PDC Emulator in each domain. Since you have only one domain then
you would need to run it only once.

If you run Exchange 2000 then you need to be prepared for a little hiccup
( or, as Microsoft calls it, mangled attributes ) . Please take a look at
the following MSKB Article:

Carl:

Thanks for the help. After the post I found KB# 234790 which basically told
me the same thing you did. But I still hit a stopping block. I was able to
run adprep /forestprep ok with no errors. As the document stated I had my
Win2k schema master disconnected from the network while running adprep
/forestprep. I then connected the server back to the network. Since my Schema
master and Infru. master are the same server I should not have to wait for
replicaton to take place. I then run adprep /domainprep and it stops asking
me to run adprep /forestprep. I double-checked and made sure this server was
the Infru. master as well, which it is. So, what now...

FYI - I have no Exchange server in my Windows Network.
