G'Day List,

Greetings and best wishes. In my Lab Environment I would like accomplish the
following:

Lab environment sole Windows2000 server running Exchange 2000 standard. Two
WinXP Pro clients.
I would like to load up another computer running Windows Server 2003 and
ExchangeServer2003.
Joind the Windows2000 domain.
Make the new WIN2K3 server the new DC.
Make the domain a true WIN2K3 domain.
Move the mailboxes from the E2K server over the E2K3 server
Remove Exchange2000 from the Win2000 computer and wipe and reload it with
Win2003 for use as a Terminal Server/File Server.

While I have found an overwhelming large amount on info, I am wondering if
someone could point me to some KB Articles that would step me through the
process.

Many Thanks

You should take different order of those steps:
1. adprep WIndows 200 domain, provide fix for Exchange 2000
http://www.petri.co.il/windows_2003_adprep.htm
http://www.petri.co.il/windows_2003_adprep_fix_for_e2k.htm

2. Promote Windows 2003 as new DC in Windows 2000 domain
3. adprep your forest and domain for Exchange 2003
4. introduce Exchagne 2003 in your organization
5. Move mailboxes for new server

all steps regarding Exchange are good documented in Exchange 2003
Deployment guide:

6. transfer all FSMO roles to new server

7. Remove Exchange 2000 from Your organization
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307917

8. remove windows 2000 DC from Your domain (dcpromo)
9. Switch Your domain and exchange to native mode

Tomasz,

Is it really that easy? ;-)

I must admit that I have yet to do this....

If You will do this carefull and taka while to do Your reading and sent
some time with VPC it should be easy. Of course depending on the
configuration of the domain and forest (today I came back from customer
site who is migrationg from NT/Ex5.5 to Win2003/Ex2003 in a little
weired domain configuration).

just take Your time with virtual machine - it's good practice - one
afternoon and You will have it all done.
