Hi there,
Is it possible we joining a windows 2003 into the Windows 2000 AD/Domain.
And then we promote it to be a domain controllers?

In our environment, we have 3 Windows 2000 domain controllers, 1 site, 1
single domain, no child
domain at all. 3 Windows 2000 domain controller, First Domain controller
server holds 5 roles,
other just backup domain controller. First domain controller, and another
domain controllers are GC,
another domain controller is standby domain controller.

Is there any documentation saying about joining a windows 2003 into Windows
2000 AD/domain
and then can promote it to be domain controller in Windows 2000 AD/domain
environment?

Thanks for nay input

Yes. You first prep the forest, then prep the domain, and then do
the DCPromo of the Win2003 member server.

After this promotion the domain is considered to be a Wi2003 Domain.

adprep /forestprep
adprep /domainprep

In a single domain forest every DC should be a GC.

It's pretty straighforward the only oddity is if you have outdated legacy
clients
running NT4/9x.

You must have full REPLICATION before you can do any of this.
(Check with "DCDiac /c" giving no FAIL or WARN messages.)

The Schema prep of the forest goes against the Schema Master
and the domain prep goes against the Infrastructure Master but yours
are together so no surprises there.

Hi there, (Herb)

Thanks for your response. Is there anything concern for our Exchange 2000
servers when
we upgrading Windows 2000 active directory to Windows 2003 Active Directory?

After joining the Windows 2003 to the domain and promote to be DC and become
Windows 2003 AD.
What is about of First Domain Controller, it is still on Windows 2000. Do we
also need to upgrade it to Windows2K3 as well?

Your best bet is to ask this question in the Exchange 2000-2003 newsgroups.

I do Exchange but not every day and it is not my main expertise.

There is really nothing specially about "first DC" in any case -- except
that by default the first (in the forest) is a GC and the first DC holds
the single master roles.
