Intranet or untrusted site

Chris

Hi, If I try to open an Access database that resides on a
web server or any other domain I get an error that
reads "Access can not open this data source because it
resieds on an untrusted site or is outside your intranet".
Is there a way around this security measure in gpedit.msc?

Thanks

I too am having this problem. The files we're trying to
open are in a share on a server that is on a different
subnet. We can map the share, but cannot open the files
in Access. Could someone please post a how-to on this.
I've been searching for a solution and have yet to come
up with anything on my own. Thanks.

I also have this problem and found KB Article 303650
relevant, but it still doesn't permit loading of the
database.

This means your primary domain controller that resolves NT based security
isn't a trusted domain to the web server. Check with your network
administrator to resolved this problem.

Hello, I called Microsoft Support on this issue and this
is what they had to say:

"I have consulted with the Access team in regard to the
issue and error you are experiencing. For your records,
the Access limitation you are experiencing is listed
below:

* There is an unpublished article (Q810582 for future
reference) that states that Access is not designed to
open a database by using a URL address. The Microsoft Jet
Database Engine manages the data, and will not open an
http address (I hear that it probably never will be
allowed).

* The only way to open an Access database is from a
mapped network drive or UNC on the intranet."

We had to setup a VPN connection with the vendor and it
works great as long as access thinks the file is within
the LAN or Intranet.
