When I was on a dial up connection to the internet, the connection was
stable all the way even if I did not use it for a long time. Now I have a
Broadband connection via a router and although the router indicates that the
Link is on, my Windows (?) disconnect me if there is no activity even for as
little as 10 minutes. Which is very inconvenient.

I would be very grateful to anyone, who could tell me how I can overcome
this problem. Thank you.

Might be your router settings. Have you checked the "Max Idle Time" / "Keep
Alive" or similar settings in the router configuration page?

Many thanks for the reply, but where will I find the Router Configuration
Page in Win.XPPro?

It's router specific. Refer to the user guide that came with your router
software. For Linksys, the default is http://192.168.1.1 (type in IE Address
bar)
