internet uses dialup instead of ADSL

I have had my XP home reinstalled after driver failure. All my internet is
OK thru browser, but when I want to use Windows update, I get a phone dialup
box, which of course I cant do with my ISP. How do I fix it as I think it was
done by the techo when the OS was reinstalled.
 
goto control panel>internet options>connection and run the setup at the top
of the page ...let it know you are using "lan" for the connection
