Sorry if this is a repost!
My home network is working fine but for some reason, I cannot activate
internet sharing on the host computer. I get an error message that says "An
error has occurred while internet sharing was being enabled. The service
cannot accept control messages at this time". Please help. I have two nics
on the host and two nics on the client. The host (running XP home) has a
cable modem connection. All cables and nics are working without any
problems! printer sharing, file sharing are working fine My daughter's
computer has two nics and is running XP Pro.

1) Look in Event Viewer (Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Event
Viewer) for error messages with a bit more detail.
2) Did ICS work at one time? What changes were made previous to its
not working?
3) Is the ICF / ICS service running?

Welcome to the world if ICS (Internet Crappy Sharing). If you use
braodbank, my advice is to dump the buggy ICS software and invest
about $50 (or less, with rebates) on a cable/DSL router. It will end
all the headaches you will have using ICS.

If you still use dialup, I feel for you. I hated ICS.

A bit blunt, but correct. ICS is not a good solution for everybody,
and it is not the only solution. If you can afford to have a computer
costing $500 or more, you can afford a NAT router $50 or so.

Get a NAT router, get rid of the second NIC, and disable ICS. You
won't have to keep your computer on all the time, and your daughters's
traffic won't run thru your computer, wasting your cpu. Your ICF will
have to deal with less junk traffic, which will be filtered by the NAT
in the router. Altogether, a better solution.
