Mike

I have a problem with XP/IE/Outlook express. I can dial up
to my ISP and get a connection. I can connect to my email
with Outlook express and send and receive so I know the
comms are working. When I try to use IE however I get the
standard "this page cannot be displayed" message and none
of the favourites or manual searches work. I have reset
the dial-up comms side and checked all the services that
are supposed to be running and cannot find the problem. I
have also run virus and trojan scanners but to no avail.
Its almost as though IE just isn't there anymore but i've
checked the system and am assured that it is!

I am using att dialup and have a similar problem, and it
seems to have developed since loading sp-2. In my case,
I can get the home page loaded, and may be able to get to
1 or 2 other pages, but after a couple minutes all I can
get is the same "page cannot be displayed error". I can
redial and reconnect, but again only seem to be connected
for a couple minutes. My modem acts like it is still
connected the whole time, and I have run diagnostics to
no avail. ATT has been no help either. The only other
unusual thing I see is the the new windows firewall sends
me a message about a program it is blocking (I think it
is named "dveldr"), but att says it's not theirs. Maybe
unblocking this would make a difference? I haven't tried
that yet. I may end up reformatting and starting over
with XP...oh joy.

Hi

I have the same problem. I can connect and ping the
internet but cannot get an address on the web. No
programs can access the web either. No firewalls running
either. I reinstalled XP Home SP1A and IE6 SP1 and still
couldn't surf the internet. Totally baffled. It is the
same regardless of ISP used so its either IE6 or the
TCP/IP settings are wrong, but I can't seem to fix it.

Anymore information greatly appreciated.

I'm having a similar problem.

I am actually connecting via broadband (2 different connections) and I am
unable to browse certain websites. I get 'Page cannot be displayed'. For
example, this happens with www.roxio.com. This is also not limited to
Internet Explorer, I have the same issue with FireFox or Opera. I can
connect a non-SP 2 computer the same network and get these websites without a
problem. This only occurred after I updated to SP 2. SP 1 was installed and
I had no issues. (I may backdate at this point)

Any suggestions? (I have already tried to disable firewall, reset TCP/IP
stack, etc - This happens even with a clean install and nothing on the
computer except Windows XP, SP 2 patch and my Motherboard and Network drivers)
