I have WinXP Home Edition with cable-modem high-speed
internet connection. Is there a way to check if your IP
address is being "leaked" to the Internet? Could the cable
company ISP be of any help here? Keep getting these crazy
pop-ups from a website pushing their version of software
for eliminating pop-ups.

PS. This question posted at work. E-mail address is home
computer.

I haven't heard of a cable modem taking a leak on the Internet, but if you
are pissed off by messenger spam I suggest you activate Internet Connection
Firewall (directions in Help and Support).

Without the right firewall, your IP address is public.
