Internet Gateway?

I am just curious, when I first set up our little home network, for the
first 4 to 6 days all I had in the "View Network Connections" window was the
"LAN or High-Speed Internet" icon, then one day this "Internet Gateway" icon
showed up. How did this get there (all of a sudden after 4-6 days on it's
own) what is it, how does it work?

The 'Internet Gateway' is a device on your network that shares an
Internet connection. It's usually either a broadband router or a
computer acting as an ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) host.

Clicking the 'Internet Gateway' icon lets you monitor and control the
gateway device.

the internet gateway is your router. Go to My Network Places and click on
"hide icons for networked UPnP devices" to get rid of it. Helpful to have
though

Hello Richard,

I am having the same problem. Did you check the Bytes sent & received?
there is continuous activity which slows down my internet. I can't seem to
put it back. Sometime when I re-instal my network conection I can get back
to the original setting but after I reboot it comes back...

If you find a solution please let me know.

I solved my problem

Go to control panel>add/remove programs>add/remove windows
components>networking services>

Remove check from box for Universal Plug and Play
Remove check from box for Internet Gateway Device Discovery and Control Client

Take note of whether they already had checks in the boxes and if they did do
one at a time and in the above order to see which is the culprit. You should
not have a check for the Universal Plug and Play by default.

Hi Edgar... I'm not having a "problem" persay, just was curious about that
icon. I see you fixed your problem, I went to Add/Remove...etc and sure
enough I have the 'Internet Gateway Device Discovery and Control Client'
checked but I'm going to leave it.

Thanks SO MUCH
I've been waiting and looking for a solution to this problem

the activity moniter slowed down my whole network!
