Internet gateway?

Rich

I have 3 PC's connected to my Dlink 4 port router connecting to my cable
modem. The 2 xp machines have added and internet gateway connection in
addition to the normal lan or network connection. I did the home net work
install selecting I connect to a hub or switch. Why is the internet gateway
item there? is it required or is something incorrect in the setup. It works
fine.

The Internet Gateway that you see is XP's way of depicting your router.
XP detected your router because the Universal Plug and Play Device Host service
and the SSDP Discovery Service are both enabled on your system.
You can check this out for yourself:

Start > Run > services.msc

The Internet Gateway is your router, and it's supposed to be there..
Double clicking it lets you monitor and control the router's
operation.

The "hub or switch" option that you selected won't allow file and
printer sharing on the network. Do the setup again and tell it that
the computers connect to the Internet through a "residential gateway"
(router).

Hi,

I have a problem with Internet Gateway - it disconnects every time I open IE.

IE is setup per manual's instructions i.e. Proxy server box unchecked.

Any ideas?
