Internet Explorer6 loading problem

Mike Goodson

Please help.......I have a Windows XP PC on SP2 running Internet Explorer
6.0.2900.2180 - for the last week any page requested on the browser loads
really slowly (if at all!!). You can see the "items remaining" counter on
the bottom left hand corner of the browser count down slowly. I had this
problem on a different PC about two months ago and after spending a week
troubleshooting had to re-image the damn thing.

Things I have tried:-

I have turned off Play Video, Show Pictures, Show Image Download etc - no
difference.
I have changed Network cable - no difference.
I have "fine tuned" the DNS resolution in the registry using a fix from
XPTuneup - no difference.
I tried an "MTU" tune in the registry from XPtuneup - no difference.
Security settings are all set to default (as are working IE PC's) - no
difference.
I turned off NAV - no difference.

I installed Mozilla Firefox and it raced away - excellent stuff but our
Intranet is built around IE and we have to use it so for most functions
Mozilla is ok but not all; and in the instances when we have to use IE it is
just too slow.

Any help appreciated.

TIA
Mike

First eliminate any spyware.

CAUTION!!!!! Removing some spyware can damage the Winsock stact. Before
you try to remove spyware using any of these programs , download a copy of
LSP-Fix - a free program to repair damaged Winsock 2 stacks (all Windows
versions)

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

Apologies - I should have also said originally that I had already ran
Spyware and Virus scans (using Symantec Norton AntiVirus Corp Ed (v8),
Microsoft AntiSpyware and HiJack This) - all came back clean. The PC has
only been on the users desk about six weeks (it was brand new) so it's not
as if it has there years attracting Spyware. This issue only arose a week
ago - a system restore to that point also makes no difference so I'm really
stuck!!

I did try the winsock repair tool and ran that but it made no difference.

Kind regards
Mike

I have now run BHO Demon on the PC; it only reported two running - one for
Google Toolbar and the other for Adobe Acrobat.

I also tried a re-installation of IE with no improvement.

Sorry, I don't know what else might cause the problem. Besides, of course,
problems at the ISP. I've had those.
