Internet Explorer won't load web pages

IE was working just fine until recently when it stopped displaying web pages.
Now all I get when I try to browse the web is a blank white screen. I don't
even get an error message. It had no problem displaying saved web pages on
my computer, it seems that it is simply not connectint to the web. I have
had to install Netscape in order to browse. This would not be a problem
except for one thing: Windows Update requires that you use IE.

Hi Maizing :)

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, but, try the
following and see if it helps:

Blank - Empty - White Pages

Check IE>Tools>Internet Options>Connections tab
Click on LAN settings
Under Proxy server.....be sure Use a proxy server for your LAN is unchecked.
This can sometimes prevent IE from displaying web content
Also...if the Autodetect settings box is checked, uncheck it. If it is
unchecked, try checking it and see if that makes a difference.

If still no joy.....

Go to Tools>Internet Options>Security>Custom Levels> Check to Enable "Allow
META Refresh."

Go to Start>Run> and register the following dll's by using
regsvr32 command. Try the first 2, then see if it resolves the problem. If
not then register the rest of the .dll's:

Enter each command one at a time and hit enter after each one. You should
see a message box that say it has been registered successfully.

regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 scrrun.dll
regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 msjava.dll

If that doesn't work, then check out the following article and do the
additional steps outlined there:

I have Windows XP home Edition, Service Pack 2 (I had recently reinstalled my
operating system and repatched everything so it's completely updated and
don't want to have to do that again if I can avoid it).

I am on a dial-up connection to the web and the problem started when I tried
to open a web page as my computer was being connected to the internet.

One thing, I am now using Netscape, and it has a setting that allows it to
run in a mode that imitaites IE, but when I tried that, I experienced the
same problem I am having with IE.

I have tried all of the solutions you list, and nothing worked. It will
open saved pages on my computer just fine, it just won't open pages on the
web.

One thing I neglected to mention, not only is the page blank, but the
navigation bar remains empty too.

New information: I was fooloing around with IE and found that it will open
https: sites, just not http: sites if that makes any difference.

For example: I can open my web mail using IE, but not msn.com.

Ok, that did not work either.

Also, I can ONLY access secure web sites with IE... the links you gave were
for the opposite problem.

I have not been able to find anything that addressed the specific difficulty
I am having.

It would not be a problem if IE were not required for Windows Update, or if
the Windows Update site were a secure site because I can use Netscape to
browse if IE isn't working.

Hi Maizing :)

It is possible that you have some form of scumware on your system that is
causing the problem with IE. Work through the following informaton and see
if that helps:

Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware.
Please post your log to one of the following forums

Hope this helps.

Be aware, there are many types of scumware that your antivirus and some
removal tools cannot detect or remove. Therefore, use the programs as
described in the instructions here. Some variants can continue to replicate
themselves each time your computer starts up if not properly removed.
