Internet Explorer very slow and hangs!

I think i have explorer version 6.0, It seems that the
online is very slow despite the fact I have cable lines.
Seems that when i hit enter on a web page it just sits
there and does nothing. If I hit the "back" button I get
a white screen. Then I have to close out of Internet
Explorer and reopen it again and I hope not to have the
same problem. Any help w/ this would be appreciated

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
