I had to redo my computer from scratch, I installed xp and all my drivers,
did all the updates to sp2 and everything was fine, internet explorer was
really fast. Then I installed sp2 and now when internet explorer opens and i
type in an address it sits there for about 30-60 seconds then starts to load
the page, and they end up loading slowely. I have tried 2 different nic
cards. My internet connecting is fine I plugged another computer into the
same cable and it was completely fine. Can anybody help me please??? I really
dont want to have to redo my computer again.

Hi Michael :)

If you have recently updated to the Java 6.0, uninstall it in Add/Remove
Programs. There have been problems associated with the 6.0 update on some
machines that causes IE to open and/or respond very slowly. If it does not
revert back to the Java 1.5.0_05 then reinstall the _05. You can find the
_05 here:
http://www.tucows.com/get/194327_86883

That should return the system to normal speed.

If not, then see the following:

Start>Run>enter the following lines in the window one at a time, pressing
Enter after each one. You should see a message after entering each one that
it was registered.

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

also.......

Internet Explorer stops responding or the home page takes a long time to
open

Hope this helps.

Michael,
I may have the same or similar problem. Does your machine load at normal
speed a website from your favorites folder? My IE is slow only when I type
in a webpage in the address bar and press "enter" or "go". It will take
30-60 seconds and then load the page. If I select the page from my favorites
it loads quickly as normal.

I remember seeing an update to Java, but my version indicates the 5.05
version rather than the new 6 version of Java.

Any other suggestions? Thanks. Jon

Hi Jon :)

Have you tried any of the suggestions that have been provided for Michael
here?

You might also try:
Restore search functions
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/RestoreSearch2.REG
to restore your search functions

or

Reset Search:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/IEFIX.reg
This will restore your default Search functionality. However, if you had
any custom adjustments you have made will have to re-select them.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Jan. Still no luck. I run CounterSpy and NIS. I don't see any bugs,
adware or spyware. I still suspect Java. Any other suggestions?

Hi Jon :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

First, update your video driver.

then, download and install the Windows script engine 5.6 here:
http://www.fjsmjs.com/IE/scriptdb.htm

If still no joy, continue...

Macromedia Flash Player Download Center
Windows
http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash

ans..

Exit all programs that are running.
Click Start>Run>then copy and paste the following command into the window

regsvr32 /i urlmon.dll then click OK or hit enter.

You should see "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded", click OK.

If this does not resolve the problem, then register all the following
commands by copying them into the window one at a time the same as you did
the regsvr32 /I urlmon.dll above, hitting enter and then Ok after each one.

Shdocvw.dll
Msjava.dll
Actxprxy.dll
Oleaut32.dll
Mshtml.dll
Browseui.dll
Shell32.dll

If the problem is still not resolved, verify that the following registry
values are
present and correct:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
Name: (Default)
Value: IDispatch
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProxyStubClsid
Name: (Default)
Value: {00020420-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProxyStubClsid32
Name: (Default)
Value: {00020420-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

also..

And, if you are using a McAfee anti-virus program, and it's set to scan all
files, try changing it to scan programs and documents only.

Hope this helps.
