Internet explorer re-install

I had an earlier version of IE (version 5) then got it
upgraded to IE6. Started having serious problems to the
point where i just have black pages. I then tried to
re-install the IE6 from the Microsoft web site, but the
problem I encounter is: the installer has detected a much
recent version than the one I am trying to install. It
stops the installation. Does any one know how to get around
this error message?

Running XP, you had version 5?

To answer your question, yes. Run this edit, then follow through the rest:

Enable Reinstallation of Internet Explorer or OE (Line 114)

Re-install IE - Go to Start/Run, and type :
"rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
%windir%\inf\ie.inf"
